Good To Be Near God: A Prayer
Pray with me today. Declare what you know to be true about our Heavenly Father's presence in our lives. Here are the Scripture references for this prayer: John 11:41-42; Psalm 139:7 (NLT); Psalm 78:21-28 (but read all); John 1:14; 1 Corinthians 3:16; John 14:15-17, John 14:26 (AMP); Psalm 91.
Father, thank you that you hear us. Your Son Jesus prayed that just before raising Lazarus from the dead. And he said it for the benefit of those present—and for our benefit. We understand now that you will raise us up, that you hold all power over death and hell. We take refuge in your strength and compassion. Thank you, you who are our Heavenly Father, for having ears that are attentive to our prayers. We call and you answer. You are near. You are Emmanuel, God with us. God who never leaves, God who never forsakes. God who is mindful of us and whose steadfast love is a balm.
Although we sometimes feel like running away, we can never escape from your Spirit. We can never get away from your presence. You will always guide, strengthen and support us in every circumstance. Even when our hearts turns against you and we become senseless and ignorant, we are always with you, you guide us with your counsel so that we are each able to say But as for me, it is good to be near God. I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge. I will tell of all your deeds. We will tell of all your goodness to us.
From age to age, you are faithful. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. Because of your faithfulness to draw near to us, Lord, now we have your Holy Spirit who dwells in us and in our midst. Thank you for being our Help, Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor, Counselor, Strengthener, Teacher who guides us into all truth. It is good to be near you Lord. We make you, Sovereign Lord, our refuge. Today, we rest in the shadow of the Almighty and trust in you.
Amen.
