Keep The Faith
This devotional considers Hebrews 10:19-25 and 12:1-3.
We have so much to be encouraged by to run a good race, we just have to make sure that we’re looking at the right things. Otherwise, we might be tempted to stop and rest when we shouldn’t, stop altogether or leave the road for another. This life of faith can be difficult to say the least, and we grow weary and lose heart. But the Lord has called us to endure. How though?
We first have Christ as our example. He lived a life of loving the Lord and his neighbors as himself as an example for us to follow. It’s a moment by moment attentiveness, a daily walk that we must seek his counsel to live out. In this we learn to truly pray about all things. All things.
He is also the new and living way opened for us. He is the great priest through whom we approach the Father. This is something not just to accept as good and true, but to live by. We get grace from the One who resisted sin to the point of shedding his blood. Both grace to be made righteous and grace for righteous living in this world.
So, we have Jesus Christ himself, and then we also have the example of other people of faith. Many in the Scriptures, in the long history of the Church, in recent history and alive today have set powerful examples of how to keep the faith, live by faith, pass on faith. It’s not just about not sinning, but engaging life with eyes fixed on Jesus. It’s a passionate pursuit of holiness and the will of God in every decision, interaction, and in the thoughts and meditations of our hearts—in every area of our lives.
Today, be encouraged in your walk with the Lord, your race of faith, however you want to say it. There’s a lot for us to draw upon to help us. The Lord himself is our help, and if we look, we’ll find he has been that same help for others. We are not alone.
Amen.
