Treasure
This devotional considers Matthew 7:7-8 and Proverbs 2:3-5. Also read Matthew 13:44-46.
Sometimes, we really need to hear from the Lord, and whatever the reason, it’s not as easy to know what the Lord is saying or doing. Sermons are good, life-changing even, for others but not for you. The passages that would normally bring comfort and inspire fall flat. And life keeps happening…time doesn’t wait on anybody, and responsibilities don’t change.
What do we do in these times?
Ask. Seek. Knock. Our posture must change from apathy (if we get there), from frustration to resolve to do what it takes to find what is needed. Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. No length of time is given, that’s why I say it must be a change in posture, that is, adopting the mindset, attitude and desire of a seeker. Our hearts must be turned on full pursuit. Don’t despise desperation, the panting after the Lord.
indeed, if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,
and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
Treat the things of God like treasure, or in this case, hidden treasure. Wisdom and understanding of God, from God, requires a decision to pursue without shame and without counting the cost. Cry out, call out, look for, search for, sell everything, lose your life, as Jesus taught. He said, whoever loses their life for me will find it. Do whatever you have to do to gain the counsel and wisdom of God. And when it comes, don’t give it up for anything. Do all that is necessary to secure it because it is life. There is nothing more valuable than the treasure of God’s Kingdom.
I pray that today, we would be encouraged to keep pursuing the Lord. Search the Scriptures, ask questions. Be quiet and meditate on God’s Word and your life. Read, worship, fast and pray as often and as long as it takes. Then…then you will understand…and find.
Amen.
